Dear Colleagues,
Dr. Keith E. Alley, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, has indicated his intention to retire no later than July 1, 2011, after many years of exemplary service to the University of California, Merced, and a long and distinguished career at Case Western Reserve and The Ohio State University. I know that you join me in expressing gratitude for his excellent service over the past nine years and extend best wishes for a stimulating and healthy retirement.
As a result of Keith's decision, I am launching the search for the next Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor. To assist with this effort, I have retained Mr. David Bellshaw and Mr. Bernard Jones of the San Francisco office of Isaacson, Miller, to conduct the search process. Both gentlemen will be on campus on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, to meet with the search advisory committee and with other campus constituent groups.
Professor Susan Amussen and Professor Thomas Harmon will co-chair the search advisory committee. As a part of the search consultant visit, we have included an open meeting from 4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., in KL 232, as an opportunity for interested faculty, lecturers, and staff to visit with Mr. Bellshaw and Mr. Jones to express points that they believe are important to be considered as the search proceeds. Please also feel free to communicate your views to a search committee member as the search progresses.
