On April 15, 2017, a group of us at UC Merced are organizing the Merced chapter of the March for Science in solidarity with the nationwide efforts to protect free scientific inquiry in the face of several devastating new policies, and the new administration’s general anti-science stance.
We want to make this a UC-wide community outreach event, with representatives from all UCs showing up alongside community members in a show of support!
We will have a march in the morning from 10 a.m. to noon at Court House Square Park. A handful of scientists will share their thoughts with us, starting about 10:30 a.m., and then we march!
Later in the day, we have a stall at the Art Hop (5-9 p.m., Main Street, Merced) where you can talk to real people who do science and have a peek at what being a scientist entails (Psst. It’s massively cool).
We will also have students from UC Merced talking about their work, and more fun science stuff for the kids and the grown-ups. It’s going to be a great evening, and we hope you will show up and extend the support to the UC and the wider scientific community.
