Re: Appreciating Our Staff
To: All employees
May 18, 2022
Colleagues,
As we close out the spring semester, I could not be prouder of this institution and of each one of you.
We have weathered what I hope is the worst of the pandemic and have done so with a resilient sense of community and an undaunted commitment to our institutional mission. I saw first-hand many of you participating in commencement ceremonies over the weekend to provide a world-class experience for our graduating students, alumni, families, and friends. Your efforts, service, and selflessness do not go unnoticed or unappreciated. It is therefore fitting that this Staff Appreciation Week, UC Merced takes time to celebrate the hard work staff performs every day.
Thus, I hope to see as many of you as possible this Friday at the luncheon honoring staff who have spent significant portions of their career as our colleagues and friends. In advance of Friday’s event, I also would like to share the following update which I hope you will be as excited to receive as I am to deliver.
University leadership is currently preparing to provide a 4.5% general salary increase for non-represented staff and 4% for policy-covered academic appointees (with an additional equity program for policy-covered faculty) beginning July 1, contingent on state funding approval. This surpasses even the 3% increase we announced last year.
It is our campus’ significant progress toward fiscal maturity, through our newly developed budget call process and increased fiscal responsibility, that permits us to move forward with these increases. We commend the campus for supporting those efforts.
Human Resources will shortly share the details of this raise for staff, and the Academic Personnel Office with Provost Camfield will share details of increases for academic appointees.
Again, I and the other members of the university leadership thank you for all your contributions to the rising momentum of UC Merced. Indeed, working together, I know our future grows ever brighter.
Sincerely,
Juan Sánchez Muñoz, Ph.D.
Chancellor
