As one of the most diverse universities in the state, equity and inclusion are threads woven into everything we do here.
We take great pride in our diversity – with over 80 percent of our undergraduates identifying either as students of color, first generation, or from limited income households.
We support and meet the needs of our community through programs such as Services for Undocumented Students, and outreach efforts like our campus Valuing Black Lives Initiatives.
When I began my tenure at UC Merced, we undertook the creation of the university’s first ever strategic plan. What came out of this process were three main goals, one of which is to “Cultivate a Culture of Dignity and Respect for All.”
This strategic plan will take UC Merced through the year 2030 and will drive us toward inclusive excellence in all we do, while dismantling longstanding exclusionary practices in higher education and continuing to deliver on our mission of excellence in teaching, research and public service.
I am proud to be a member of the California Strategic Growth Council, and as a Council Champion I invite you to visit its Racial Equity Resource Hub to learn more about advancing racial equity all across California — just as we are doing here at UC Merced.
Fiat Lux — let there be light.
