Jan. 3, 2023
To the UC Merced community,
I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Nick Dugan the university’s first Vice Chancellor and Chief Information Officer. Nick has served as interim Chief Information Officer since February.
He began at UC Merced in 2010 as a computing systems support specialist for the School of Engineering and has performed a variety of leadership functions in the Office of Information Technology. Nick was UC Merced's first Chief Information Security Officer, a role in which he led numerous efforts to secure our information systems and helped develop campus IT policy.
Serving as Deputy Chief Information Officer since 2016, Nick was responsible for managing enterprise information systems and expanding the campus network via the Merced 2020 Project.
His UC career began in 2001. He held IT roles at UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz.
Nick holds a master’s degree in information management from Arizona State University and a bachelor’s in computer science from UC Santa Cruz.
His effective management through a number of IT challenges, his proactive work with partners across campus and contributions to our post-pandemic workforce planning, along with his passion for lifelong learning and servant-leadership, have commended him to the university’s senior leadership team, and we welcome him to the Cabinet.
