Dear colleagues,
It’s that time of year when we celebrate the merriment and good will of the holidays. I would like to take a moment to thank you for your continued dedication and enormous personal contributions to the success of UC Merced.
All of us can take great pride in the achievements of our first 10 years including ground-breaking research, exceptional students and impactful community engagement. Each one of you has contributed to this success, from maintaining our beautiful grounds and buildings to working directly with students inside or outside of the classroom. Thank you.
As our thoughts turn to holiday giving and good cheer, I wanted to share with you with a number of giving opportunities available to the campus community this season.
Annual Holiday Toy Drive – This initiative benefits All Dads Matter, a local community group that provides support and resources for fathers. Toys are needed for children ages toddler to preteen. Donations will be collected at the holiday reception on Dec. 18 between 3:30 – 5 p.m. at the northeast end of Scholars Lane between the Student Services and the Social Sciences and Management buildings. For more information, contact Danielle Armedilla.
UC Merced’s United Way Campaign will continue to accept donations through Dec. 31. Those who did not get a chance to make a one-time donation or contribute via payroll deduction can still do so by visiting the UC Merced United Way Campaign website.
The Office of Student Life is sponsoring A Home for the Holidays. Similar to last year’s Adopt-a-Family, participants – individuals, groups or a department – select a tag that represents a family and then purchase items for the family’s children. The tags are available in the Office of Student Life, Department of Public Safety, Facilities, the third floor break room in the Kolligian Library and the Mondo Building. Deadline to turn in items is Dec. 19. Contact Vernette Doty for more information.
The Pre-Vet Club is sponsoring Presents for Pets. The group is collecting items to distribute to local animal shelters and rescue groups. Items needed include: toys, food, treats, blankets, towels, leashes, collars, cleaning supplies, bleach, rugs, beds and gas cards. Items will be accepted through Dec. 13. Contact the club for more information.
I am grateful for the many, many contributions you are making to UC Merced and our region, our state and our future. I hope you enjoy a relaxing holiday vacation.
Happy holidays,
Dorothy Leland
Chancellor
