One for the Books

Re: One for the Books

To: All campus

Colleagues,

UC Merced has held another outstanding commencement weekend, with three ceremonies to mark the accomplishment of nearly 1,500 scholars.

Thank you to all who worked hard to ensure these momentous occasions showed off the best of this university — from the groundskeepers who dressed campus for the influx of 10,000 visitors, to the police who kept them safe, to the scores of faculty who robed (in the heat!) and marched with graduates, to the hundreds of staff who volunteered part or all of their weekends.

The measure of our success, though, is not in the pomp and circumstance. It is in the cheers and broad grins of our graduating students. It is in the tears of grateful and proud parents and grandparents. And it is in the future contributions to human progress that UC Merced graduates will make with the knowledge we have helped them earn on a uniquely supportive campus that made their learning possible.

As UC Merced grows in reputation and in its student body, I know we will remain committed to providing the exceptional support, the outstanding teaching and research, and the stellar ceremonies that have always marked this campus and made it such a special place for our students, their families, and alumni.

That is entirely thanks to each of you. Thank you for all that you do every day for UC Merced.

Sincerely,

Juan Sánchez Muñoz, Ph.D.

Chancellor
