Colleagues,
I write to you today to urge you to take advantage of a temporary program that may save you thousands of dollars in student loan debt. As you may have heard, the Biden Administration expanded the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program to offer those who have been working in public service and making payments on their student loans the opportunity to receive credit for any past qualifying payments toward total loan forgiveness. However, your paperwork must be filed before the rapidly approaching deadline of October 31.
The Biden Administration also recently announced its student debt relief plan to remove some of the student loan debt burden that continues to weigh so many Americans down. Up to $20,000 in qualifying student loan debt may be forgiven under this plan. An application for this program is expected to be released this month; you can learn more here.
Many have given up more lucrative opportunities in the private sector in pursuit of the meaningful, mission-driven work that we do in higher education and in the public sector at large. These programs are a fitting note of thanks.
