Dear Campus Community,
The past few weeks have been busy, bringing both the normal start-of-semester activity and uncertainty associated with changing federal guidance coming from Washington, D.C.
Earlier this week, the University of California distributed a letter from President Drake addressing concerns triggered by an executive order that would have paused federal funding for many programs including research grants, loans and other vital financial assistance. Subsequently, the executive order was rescinded.
Campus leadership is closely monitoring the situation and receiving updates from the UC Office of the President, which is in close contact with key policymakers and our partners in higher education. While the path ahead is uncertain, I am committed to keeping you informed with accurate updates while striving to not unnecessarily contribute to the anxiety many are experiencing.
Our focus remains on what we can control – advancing our mission and supporting one another. Communication will be focused and, when possible, with direct outreach to those who may be most affected. If you have questions, I encourage you to connect with your divisional leadership, who are working with colleagues across the system.
Regular updates will be provided via scheduled communication channels like Monday Memo, including links to UCOP dashboards and other partners tracking relevant developments.
As a campus of the University of California – the world’s foremost system of public higher education and research – we stand together with a unified voice. I thank you for your dedication, resilience and courage.
Fiat Lux,
Juan Sánchez Muñoz, Ph.D.
Chancellor
