An update from Chancellor Leland, Additional information on support and tonight's vigil

November 6, 2015

Dear campus community:

I know many of you are back on campus today, or will be soon.  I want to make sure you know you are not alone.  Our entire campus community has been shaken by the events of this week. Please know that we have counselors available for all campus community members in need of extra support at this time. We have group and individual appointments available, as well as group outreach meetings, on the second floor of the Student Activities and Athletic Center (SAAC). Please visit  here for the full schedule: http://counseling.ucmerced.edu/crisis.

I also want to personally invite all students, staff and faculty to the “I Stand With UC Merced” candlelight vigil organized by the Associated Students of UC Merced (ASUCM) and the Graduate Student Association (GSA) tonight at 5 pm. We will gather in the South Bowl and cross the Scholars Lane Bridge together in a symbol of unity. I encourage managers and supervisors to allow for early release time so staff members can participate. Campus parking enforcement will be relaxed during the event and Counseling and Psychological Services will be available during the vigil.

For those who wish to share thoughts of Bobcat support and pride on social media, we encourage the use of #BobcatStrong.

Sincerely,

Dorothy Leland, Chancellor
