Valley Roots: Making plays with and about the agricultural community in Merced, presents community-engaged theater with two new plays based on interviews with local farmers and members of the agricultural community.
The plays are titled "Ours to Lose" by Yia Lee, a play about Hmong family farmers, and "Straws" by Hannah Maulden, a play about women in agriculture.
All performances are free and open to everyone:
Dec. 1, 7 p.m., Merced Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St., Merced;
Dec. 2, 7 p.m., UC Merced Lakireddy Auditorium, 5200 N. Lake Road, Merced; Dec. 3, 2 p.m. (includes a talk-back with writers, directors and cast after the performance) & 7 p.m., Merced Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St. Merced
Each performance will include a short lecture or panel discussion before the performance and/or a talk-back/audience discussion after the performance.
