Discretionary Funding Request

Funding requests will be considered two times each fiscal year. Deadlines for submissions will be December 15th and June 15th. Funding Criteria for Priority Consideration

  • Supports core expenditure vs. ancillary program
  • One-time funding
  • Leverages other funding
  • Results in savings or return on investment
  • Meets current campus priorities

Please complete the funding request form completely.

Section I.

Enter the Requestor, Department, Account/COA, Business Officer, Amount Requested, Matching Funding information.

Section II.
Provide a thorough explanation of why funding is needed from Chancellor’s Discretionary Funds and why the cost cannot be covered from existing funding sources. Provide details on how this request meets one or more of the listed criteria: relates to core expenditures, leverages other funding, results in savings or return on investment, and/or meets campus priorities. Elaborate on how this will help fulfill the University's mission of teaching, research, and public service. Please note that funding may be requested for short-term (contract) personnel costs, but will not be provided for permanent FTEs. Provide a detailed breakdown of expenses associated with this request, information on any matching funding available, and how future costs will be addressed since this source is intended as one-time funding.

Steps to follow:

  1. Fill out the Funding Request Form.
  2. Prior to submission, the requestor should get the appropriate Senior Leadership Team member signature (EVC/P, VC, AC or Campus Counsel) on the form either electronically or in hard copy.
  3. Submit the form to Molly Elazier, Executive Assistant to the Chancellor, at melazier@ucmerced.edu.
  4. Generally, within 2 weeks of the submission due dates, requestor and Senior Leadership Team member will be notified by the Chancellor's Office of funding outcomes via e-mail
  5. The Director of Administration for the Chancellor’s Organization in consultation with Associate Chancellor/Chief of Staff, will identify appropriate funding sources and coordinate the fund transfer with the requestor’s Business Officer.
