Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that Ed Klotzbier will join UC Merced in June as Chief of Staff and Associate Chancellor. This is a new position, but with no new budget, created through attrition and restructuring in the Office of the Chancellor.
Mr. Klotzbier will come to UC Merced from the College Board’s New England Division, where he served multiple roles overseeing its educational programs and services across K-12 and higher education. He previously served as Vice President for Student Affairs and also as Director of Communications at Northeastern University. Before starting his career in higher education, Klotzbier served as Vice President and Deputy Director of Public Affairs at Mellon Financial Corporation and as the Public Affairs Liaison for Palmer & Dodge, LLP. He holds the degree of Juris Doctor from New England School of Law and a BS in Public Administration from Northeastern. He has taught courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels in areas ranging from crisis communications to organizational culture, climate and communications.
Ed has a unique set of skills that will benefit UC Merced in years to come as a result of his work on political campaigns and in the fields of government, legal and financial services, public relations, and higher education.
As Chief of Staff, Ed will serve as liaison between my office and internal and external stakeholders as well as the UC Office of the President. He will assist in ensuring our responsiveness to emerging challenges and needs. Additionally, he will provide strategic advice and assistance on key initiatives that include, but are not limited to, developing comprehensive internal communications and external relations strategies.
Reporting units to the Chief of Staff include the Office of Governmental and Community Relations and University Communications.
Sincerely,
Chancellor Leland
