To the UC Merced Community,

The Department of Homeland Security has fortunately reversed its attempt to revoke the student visas of international students who were not taking in-person classes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The University of California was among institutions across the country suing the federal government over this shocking and unjust action, and as of yesterday, the attempt has been dropped. This means that international graduate and undergraduate students may continue to work with universities on how best to pursue their education.

I am proud of the UC’s leadership in this fight and want to make sure you see Chairman Perez’ and President Napolitano’s full statement on this important victory.

Sincerely,

Juan Sánchez Muñoz, Ph.D.
