Re: Nominate a Big Cat Hero Today
To: All Campus
Sept. 10, 2020
Dear Campus Community,
With great privilege comes great responsibility. At UC Merced, we have the privilege of access to top-notch teaching, cutting-edge tools and technology, and the pursuit of research and higher learning so that we can ultimately make our world a better place. With that privilege, we have an immense responsibility to use the knowledge we have to keep our community as healthy as possible.
This has not been easy and will continue to test the strength of our will until we beat COVID-19 as a society. Thus, I want to recognize those of you who have gone out of your way to lead the charge in safeguarding our campus community during this pandemic — even when it seems like a new health and safety protocol is added almost daily.
I have been amazed at the resilience of our campus and how so many of you are taking this climate of frequent change in stride. These are moments that must be celebrated, and in the current climate we can all use something to cheer for.
This is why I am proud to introduce the COVID-19 Big Cat Heroes Awards. Next week, and every other week thereafter, a community member of each category (staff, faculty/academic appointee, student) will be selected by committee for Big Cat Heroes Awards and announced in the next week’s Monday Memo. We will make awards of $250 to $750 for the daily acts of heroism that contribute to our continued efforts to keep UC Merced thriving through this crisis.
Nominations for colleagues can be made by anyone and emailed to me at ChancellorMunoz@ucmerced.edu .
Let’s show our Bobcat spirit and cheer for our colleagues who are making a difference in our lives and in our ability to pursue our work in as healthy an environment as possible. Send me your first nominations before Sept. 14.
#GoBobcats!
