To the Campus Community,

Last Friday I had the great pleasure to join with my Merced College counterpart, President Chris Vitelli, in signing the Merced Promise. This new pact binds our institutions together to create a more robust educational pathway for the young people of our region — from the associate’s degree to the bachelor’s and beyond.

To the Campus Community,

Every year at this time, UC Merced prepares for a long, quiet holiday weekend. Historically we have visited family or made space for loved ones to join us. We have paused for a moment to reflect in gratitude on what we have, and we have made efforts to remember those who may not have as much and do what we can to help.

To the Campus Community,

When Dr. Michael Drake chose UC Merced in October as the very first campus to visit in his new UC presidency, he was touring a campus he had helped to conceptualize as a UC administrator and one he had evaluated early in our history, as a visiting accreditor.

He departed Merced not only more familiar with but more energized by our great work and even greater vision.

Dear Campus Community,

There is no more significant and heartwarming celebration at a university than commencement. For this fall graduating Class of 2020 and their loved ones, we will host virtual ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 19 that we hope are both fitting and memorable.

Dear Campus Community,

While we are all busy these days learning to work remotely, conduct research, teach classes and, most importantly, keep ourselves and our families healthy and safe, there is yet more that requires our shared attention.

Dear Campus Community,

The killing of Breonna Taylor, and subsequent prosecutorial decisions, mark another in a series of painful episodes for America, resonating across countless lives and communities, and indeed we are reminded of and affirm our commitment that Black Lives Matter.

Breonna’s Life Matters.
